The Other Side of the Coin

Hey guys, Zach here, I’ve been kinda slacking and letting Parker make all the posts so far for this blog, but I will sit idle no more! First, let me introduce myself. Being a practitioner of Mixed Martial Arts, cage fighter, avid weight lifter, and nutrition fanatic, my approach to fitness is a bit different from Parker’s. If I post some outlandish routine that has you all like, “Ye gads, what is that?”, calmly flip open your fitness encyclopedia and thumb to the appropriate page or just drop a quick reply message explaining your confusion. In the months leading up to our grand adventure, training and the proper nutrition are vital (a good attitude is also quite helpful). Parker and I will be making numerous posts regarding diet and exercise to fill you guys in on what it is that we are doing. With that said, here’s my food intake and workout for today:

Food: Breakfast- Three eggs scrambled with 1/8 cup of cheese and 3 oz of ham, wheat bread toast with 1 tbsp of peanut butter, 1/2 cup of carrots and broccoli, and 1/4 cup of grape nuts with 8 oz of 2% milk. Lunch- garden salad with tomatoes, carrot shavings, spinach, and lettuce, 1/4 cup of walnuts, an apple, and a 6 oz strip steak. Afternoon- Turkey sandwich on wheat with cheese and spinach. Post workout- 1 scoop of Promasil protein powder with water. Dinner- Turkey soup with carrots and brown rice, glass of milk, and broccoli.

Workout: 90 minutes of Brazilian jui-jitsu sparring

Calories burned: 800-900

    • They are one in the same, the term “cage-fighting” is simply a slang as the fight takes place in a cage – an octagon bordered by fencing. Cage-fighting also sounds a bit more intense.
